St. Vincent DePaul Mission Walk/Race

Walk in their footsteps -- Race for awareness, sponsored by St. Vincent DePaul Mission, is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, October 26, 2014, Library Park, Waterbury.  Check-in begins at 12:00pm noon.  The Walk starts at 1:00pm; the 5K Race starts at 1:30pm.  To obtain information, registration forms, or to register online, visit our website, www.svdpmission.org.  Information and forms are available also from the Mission office (203-754-0000).

Registration fees: walkers $10 (under 9 years, free), runners $25 ($30 after October 23).  Participants under 18 must be supervised by a responsible adult.  Participants will receive a tee-shirt as a memento of the event.  Trophies, medals, and prizes will be awarded in Library Park.  All participants are encouraged to form teams and obtain sponsors for the event.  Top fund raisers will be recognized for their effort.

Participants in this annual event will gain an increased awareness of the effects of poverty, while supporting our services to the hungry, homeless, and mentally disabled living in our community.  The Walk route passes through the Mission’s Thrift Store, Soup Kitchen/Food Pantry, and Shelter in central Waterbury where the poor are offered the basic necessities of life.  Each walker will have a leaflet describing many of the historic landmarks that can be seen along the walk route.  This is a great learning experience for students and youth groups.  The 5K Road Race follows a familiar route which encircles downtown Waterbury.  Trophies for Top Team and Runner Team Challenge!
