Quilting Ministry

We are the Quilting Ministry of the Church, and would like to tell you a little bit about what we do, and hope you can join us.

Come down to the Church Hall on a Thursday (September to June) between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to see what we do!  The quilts we make are donated to various community organizations including Watertown Convalarium Nursing Home, Safe Haven Women’s Shelter, St. Mary’s Hospital Department of Social Services, and several other groups.  Occasionally we donate a quilt to a group for their fundraiser.

Our Ministry is a community of caring people who want to share our compassion and sewing talents.  We help each other, share our ideas and skills, and enjoy gettingtogether each week.  Our meetings end with our “brown-bag” lunch and visiting for awhile before leaving by 2:00. No “membership” or fees are required, just come when you can and enjoy this opportunity to share your time and talent, being involved in this very worthwhile service to others.

Making “utility” quilts is not difficult.   Most are used and washed often, so many of us “quilt” by sewing a grid, using a sewing machine, to hold the three layers together.  A few of us hand-quilt and will teach you to do that if you like.  We have cotton fabric which has been donated from various sources, and we will help you plan, cut and sew a quilt – you can work on it here and/or at home.  Each of us choose the size, color and pattern of the quilt we want to make, but everyone helps each other with tips and encouragement.  Any size quilt finds a home - many are small, 40” x 40” lap quilts, or 34” x 43” for babies.

We are always looking for new members who are interested in using their time and talents to make someone happy and comforted.
