Council of Catholic Women

All women of the parish are invited to become members of the Council of Catholic Women.  Membership dues are $5.00 per year, and the season runs from September through the following June.  Meetings are usually held on the first Monday evening of the month, in  Father  Filip Hall at St. John the Evangelist Church.  St. John's CCW has been in existence since 1923.

From the beginning, the Council has addressed the needs of the times.  At each monthly meeting, members bring in food items that are collected and delivered to the Food Bank.  At Christmastime, each member donates a toy for a child.  The Council also sponsors a few families in need at Christmas.

Ecumenically, our members are involved in the World Day of Prayer, planning the program with other churches.  Sponsored events have included the annual  Sunday morning communion breakfast, and our annual Ascension Thursday Mass and Luncheon at the Shrine of  Lourdes in Litchfield.  We also host many church activities, coffee hours and Simple Suppers.   We have had programs with a spiritual theme put on by our own parishioners and neighboring priests, as well as a few of our former pastors.  We have had travelogues, safety and self-defense classes and some meetings just for social fun!   We give a yearly donation to Carolyn's Place and a scholarship for a St. John School student in memory of Sister Peter, a former 8th grade teacher who was a School Sister of Notre Dame.  We have donated to the school and church in many ways, such as purchasing a Refrigerator, a Stove, a Vacuum, the Hymnal Stand, the gold Missal cover, and various books.

A simple dessert and coffee are served by the hostesses at each meeting. Meetings begin with an opening prayer and lighting of a candle for petitions and end with a prayer to our Lady of Good Counsel.
