The 8th grade student group will be exclusively exploring the topic of the Mass. As Catholics, we are requiredto attend weekly Mass - it is part of the 10 Commandments. Even with weekly attendance, it’s possible to miss out on what we are offered at Mass.

The Catholic Church teaches that the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is, “the source and summit of the Christian life.” (CCC 1324) This means that the entire Christian life culminates with what the Church teaches on the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Mass.

The Mass is the most beautiful act of worship of Almighty God and a precious treasure of our Catholic Church. To fully appreciate the Mass, we are called to understand what really takes place on a late Saturday afternoon or a Sunday morning. We will learn all the different parts of the Mass, what they mean and how we can glean the most as we enter into this sacred space and time.

Please be advised that each month the students will be given homework based on the class topic. Children who may miss a class, will also be required to complete homework for that class.

8th grade students are also required to take part in two service projects. Service reminds us of our connection to those members of our human family who are most in need. The experiences we have during service help us to
see the face of Christ present in those we serve.

Finally, Jesus, in the Gospel of Matthew teaches us: “It shall not be this way among you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
