Our Mission Statement

We, the people of God gathered as Saint John the Evangelist faith community share the life-giving Word, the Eucharist and the sacraments, so that all might come to believe in the Son and have eternal life. Given this abundant life, we feel called to share our gifts and our faith with others.

Volunteers Needed for Weekend Masses

To ensure the safety  of our parishioners in the most efficient way at our weekend masses, we need volunteers to greet, count, and guide people to their seats. Thank you to all of our volunteers who made our opening last weekend successful!

Resuming Public Worship on Sundays in the Archdiocese of Hartford

Public Weekend Masses resume July 4 & 5, 2020

At St. John the Evangelist Church  our summer Mass Schedule will be:

Saturday:  5:00 PM Vigil

Sunday:  7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM

There will be no 5:00 PM Sunday Mass, at this time.

Those intentions will be included in the 11:00 AM Mass.

Our 9:00 AM Mass will be available through “livestream” on Facebook.

Archbishop Blair has dispensed from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass every Catholic in the Archdiocese of Hartford through Sunday, September 6.  If you are in poor health, elderly, have a pre-existing condition, or are vulnerable to disease for any other reason, please do not plan to attend Mass in person at this time.

Click on the image below to see all of the regulations

Please remember that there are new regulations intended to help protect us all from COVID-19.  These include limiting the number of people in the church at all times.  Also, facemasks must be worn at all times, except after receiving the Eucharist from the priest and stepping aside to consume it.  We must keep a social distance of at least 6 feet, which means many pews will not be open for seating.  If you are part of a family group, you may sit together, but must keep 6 feet from any other family group or individual.  We will have ushers to guide you to the appropriate pews, and help you to maintain that distance.  In addition, we have marked off  the areas where you should stand when receiving communion.

The Archdiocese has provided a helpful YouTube video to guide us through the process.  The link can be found on our website . and our Facebook page.  A direct link is here at  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYqJLvon0GM

Vocations Corner

The sower went out to sow.  The Lord has sown the seeds of vocations to priesthood and religious life in our parishes.  The parable of the sower challenges all who hear it to discern which description of “those who hear the word” best describes their life as Jesus’ disciple.  If you have the gifts to become a priest or religious, call Fr. Michael Casey, Director of Vocations, Pastoral Center,    Tel. 860-761-7456, email [email protected] or visit the web at www.hartfordpriest.com.
